Here is a pattern,
called Venice, to get you started! Remember,
when using monk's cloth, zigzag the raw edges, and then wash monk's cloth before stitching.
It takes 2 1/2 yards of monk's cloth for a couch throw.
This pattern may also be stitched on huck toweling, huck cloth,
Stockholm and Popkorn, or other even-weave materials.
If you have a problem printing
this pattern, please
e-mail
us your mailing address and we will gladly mail you a copy.
Happy stitching!
Jeanne
Please click here for more instructions. The 13 rows in this pattern measure 7 3/4 inches. The design repeats every 3 inches. The pattern rows are numbered with number one on the top.
Let's get started: Fold the piece of monk's cloth in fourths to find the center float. (Pick a float that has the threads lying horizontally.) Mark this float with a safety pin or bright contrasting yarn. To purchase monk's cloth
You will begin stitching at the center of the blanket. You stitch one half of the yarn to the blanket edge. Then you turn the blanket and rethread the needle with the other end of the yarn. You finish the row by stitching to the edge of the blanket with this other end of the yarn.
Measuring:
To measure the
yarn for row 1: Lay out the fabric. Measure the yarn across the
fabric. This is one length. Holding this mark measure an additional
length. Holding the second mark measure 8 more inches. Cut. You
now have 2 lengths plus 8 inches for the first row. I used light, medium
and dark sage and buff to stitch the couch throw.

If you are left handed count right instead of left.
Row 1: Begin stitching in the center of the fabric. You have already marked the center float. Make the first stitch (in the vertical threads) to the left of the center float (with the horizontal threads). Pull the yarn so that half of the yarn lays on each side of this first stitch. You will use half of the yarn to stitch the pattern across the row to the edge of the fabric.

Completing the fist half: Continue stitching rows 1 through 13 until you have enough room left for your fringe, ending at either row 2, 9 or 13. Turn the material around and stitch the other half of the couch throw. Beginning with row 13, stitch rows 13 - 1.
Finishing: After stitching, you can finish edges by fringing the ends and sewing the sides. To do this: Zig zag a couple of rows from the last stitched row. Cut material 4-24 rows away from this zig zagging. Remove threads for fringe. Fold over the selvage sides and stitch down.
